The Biologist's Side of Networks and Chips

Tara Gianoulis

Yale University, Program in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

Wednesday 14 June 2006, 12.30pm
International Building 243

From database design to signal processing, machine learning to metadata, the tools of computer science are being harnessed by biologists in ever increasing numbers. The advent of high throughput biology has fostered the virtual explosion of collaborations between computer science and biology, but how is the data generated and what are the open questions in biology?

In this talk, I will present basic concepts in molecular biology before delving into some of the more common high through put techniques including expression profiling, chIP chip, protein chips, and yeast two hybrid. Finally, I will discuss some of the open questions currently being pursued.
