Computer systems research at Surrey
Dr Alex Shafarenko, Computer Systems Research Group, Dept of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Surrey
Abstract: Dr Shafarenko is the Head of the Computer Systems Research Group at the University of Surrey. CSRG is a multidisciplinary group conducting research in several areas of computer systems engineering ranging from software engineering to compilers to VLSI research. In this talk he will decribe some research activities that are in progress in the Group. The focus will be on new ideas in compiler technology and architecture for distributed computing. On the software side, he will present the results of using an advanced type theory for automatic derivation of properties of parallel programs. On the hardware side, a new method of automatic reconfiguration of the network topology based on a technique similar to simulated annealing will be discussed.
This seminar was held at the Department of Computer Science, Royal Holloway, University of London on 7 December 1998.
