Two faces of bioinformatics
Dr Andrei Grigoriev, Genome Pharmaceuticals Corp., Martinsried, Germany

Abstract: The contribution of IT into biological research is twofold. The service component of bioinformatics includes solving everyday problems of wetlab and efficient dissemination of biological data. The other part constitutes bioinformatics research, studies of structure and function of genes and proteins, their interaction and evolution. Computational problems in both these components of bioinformatics will be illustrated in the examples of data analysis in large-scale physical mapping and studies of completely sequenced genomes.

This seminar was held at the Department of Computer Science, Royal Holloway, University of London on 16 October 1998.
