Ian was Professor of Information Systems at the London School of Economics from 1986 until his retirement from active teaching in September 2011.


Prior to this he researched and taught Computer Science at Royal Holloway, and University College London. On retirement he was made a Professor Emeritus at the LSE and continues to write books and articles, give interviews, and travel the world consulting and on speaking engagements.

His work concentrates on organizational and national IT policies, on strategic information systems and on computers and risk (both opportunities and hazards), particularly the systemic risks inherent in all socio-technical systems and the security threats posed to organisations by the rapidly diffusing international information infrastructure.

He is in great demand as a speaker on the international lecture circuit.

Alison is a Cyber Security and Software expert. She is currently a Non-Executive Director for Bytes Technology Group Plc, SEI Investments (Europe) Ltd,  Synectics Plc and Connected Places Catapult. She is a Lay Member of Council at Southampton University and is a Technical Adviser to Arqit Ltd, Cybertonica Ltd and UMotif Ltd.

Alison is an experienced IT industry leader with recent roles including Group Chief Information Security Officer at HSBC and Chief Technology Officer at Cisco. Prior to those positions she held global technical leadership roles in NDS, Micro Focus and IBM.

Alison has a PhD in Cryptography & Combinatorics and a 1st Class Honours BSc in Maths and Computer Science both from Royal Holloway. She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the British Computer Society and a Fellow of the Institution of Technology and Engineering. She is Ambassador for Women In Science and Engineering (WISE).

Adrian is a founding partner at Barnett Waddingham LLP, a 40-partner firm of consulting actuaries established in 1989, and based near St Paul's Cathedral.

Adrian advises medium-sized and large corporate clients on all aspects of their employee pension arrangements. He has been closely involved with the development of self-administered pension arrangements for directors of private companies since 1975.

A past Chairman of both the Association of Consulting Actuaries and the International Association of Consulting Actuaries, Adrian has appeared on both radio and television and lectures frequently to firms of accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants and other groups on the taxation aspects of pension provision.

Adrian was also the Sheriff of the City of London from September 2013 to September 2014 where he was responsible for the safety and comfort of the judges at the Old Bailey and supported the Lord Mayor in promoting the City of London and its financial services.
